Tide Side

Where are you right now? Celebrating the long weekend/holiday? At home with visitors? Worried? Not?

I was driving yesterday and heard someone on the radio talking seriously about the prospect of civil war in the U. S.

It's not the first time I've heard this, right? What about you?

There are friends we talk to about politics, and there are friends that we don't talk to.

To me it feels like the tide has come in, only instead of oceans, it's everything else that's pushed up against differing, competing sides.

That makes it so much easier not to say these words:

Inflation. Recession. Ability to retire. Shootings at school, supermarkets, everywhere. Environment. Climate. Freedom, in the most basic sense of the word. Voting.

I know there are those who don't believe there's anything to worry about.

And I keep thinking of the old cliche about trying to please everyone and not being able, and sooner or later, you have to take sides.

It would seem so, and to one who loves balancing out the scales, it would seem so, very sadly.

Which brings me back to my first question. Where are you right now?
