Birthday Bakery Wishes

When I was little I remember getting called "carrot top." It was sometimes meant in a good way, sometimes not, but the things people say if you have red hair can be pretty silly overall.

I've heard that strawberry ice cream must be my favorite -- even had guys buying me strawberry flavored treats and gum because they thought I'd like it.

The answer, btw, is NO thanks, I much prefer mocha, coffee and chocolate flavors for my treats.

The other thing people were sure about  was that I must love carrots. Sure, I eat them but it's not something I'm craving everyday.

Unless -- and there's an exception that proves every rule, yes? -- unless you're talking about carrot cake.

How could you NOT love that? Sugar, icing, carrot slivers and cake. I'm in! And since I'm coming up on my birthday, naturally, carrot cake is all I can think of. Only I don't want to bake it for myself! And God knows I don't want my husband to bake it.

Leaving me to have to find a bakery that has some and our city bakery is SO crowded I don't want to go in there right now. So is there a small, unnoticed bakery somewhere with a killer carrot cake? Shall I ask my Facebook hive?

You know the answer, I'm sure.

The only thing I don't want is for you to think that I like it because I have red hair. I mean it's CARROT CAKE. Right?

And in a year when so much of what most of us want doesn't have a chance of happening, shouldn't we give ourselves the little things we want every once in a while?

You know the answer to that too.

Meanwhile, if you (or your child) likes carrot cake, I found a recipe that promises it's good and easy. If you make it, let me know if you like it?

I'd also love to know your favorite birthday treat. If it has anything to do with hair color, I'd-- yeah. I'd really be surprised.
